Bell Songs
for piano
commissioned by Regina Myers
Bell Songs (2025) is a 25-minute work for solo piano that explores the rich symbolism of bells across the human experience. From the community performance practice of “change ringing” to the funerial Scottish “deid bell,” the work’s seven contrasting movements evoke bells as carriers of memory, transformation, and ritual. Composed during a time of astonishing political destabilization in the United States, the work concludes with bells as a metaphor for perseverance and hope.
